Sustainability
Sustainability is an issue that HypoVereinsbank takes very seriously. But what does sustainability really mean? In which aspects of banking business does sustainability play an important role?
HypoVereinsbank has pledged to harmonise its economic success with ecological and social standards. The bank defined these standards in our Environmental Policy 2000, and formulated them as the basis for long-term entrepreneurial success. This applies to products and services, internal workflows and interactions with our customers. Examples include environment risk checks for loans and investment products that fulfil social and environmental requirements.
And we strive to set a good example internally. The spectrum of sustainability topics is very widespread: from energy and raw material savings, the Code of Conduct (behavioural policies for management and employees), and our Integrity Charter, to auditing customer satisfaction. And from social advice, through anti-discrimination to sponsoring.
Profit must be generated with integrity. We depend on the loyalty of our employees and customers, the trust of our customers, and acceptance in the regions where we operate. Integrity ensures our licence to operate in the long term and helps us to convert profits into values - values for our employees, customers, suppliers and business partners, for investors and society as a whole.
The following pages outline our understanding of responsibility towards society and the environment, and how we implement that understanding.
